Achievements & Impacts
Since its founding, the Wargadud Environmental Protection Group (WEPG) has made meaningful progress in protecting and restoring the environment while empowering the local community.
1. Tree Planting Across Wargadud
We successfully planted over 300 trees across Wargadud Town, contributing to reforestation, combating desertification, and creating cleaner, greener spaces for residents.
2. Environmental Education in Schools
Our team visited several schools to educate students about environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable practices. These awareness sessions inspired young people to become active environmental champions.
3. Partnership with Local Authorities
We collaborated with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and community leaders to plant trees and strengthen local environmental initiatives. This partnership enhanced coordination and expanded our impact.
4. Engagement with Religious Leaders (Ulamas)
We reached out to Ulamas (religious scholars) to integrate environmental stewardship into community teachings, promoting a moral and spiritual responsibility toward protecting nature.
5. Empowering Youth and Women
We interacted with and mobilized local women and youth groups, encouraging their participation in clean-up drives, waste management, and tree planting activities — ensuring that environmental protection benefits all members of the community.
6. Tree Planting at Wargadud Primary School – Mazingira Day
In celebration of World Environment Day (Mazingira Day), the Wargadud Environmental Protection Group (WEPG) successfully led a tree planting exercise at Wargadud Primary School, where 135 trees were planted within the school compound.
The event brought together a strong spirit of community collaboration, with active participation from local leaders, religious leaders (Ulamas), the school headteacher, teachers, staff, and pupils. Together, they joined hands to promote environmental conservation and demonstrate the importance of restoring green spaces within learning institutions.
This initiative not only contributed to reforestation and climate action but also inspired pupils and the entire community to become champions of environmental protection. The trees planted will provide shade, cleaner air, and long-term ecological benefits, serving as a living symbol of unity and hope for a greener Wargadud.
